Lily Jackson
Undergraduate Reasearcher (Junior in Biochemistry, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign)
Lily is on the pre-medical track studying Biochemistry with minors in Business and Chemistry. She is planning on attending medical school once she graduates. Outside of the classroom, she is involved in medical shadowing, volunteering, and community outreach projects in order to gain firsthand experience in patient care to become a well-rounded physician.
Current Research
Lily joined the Kalsotra Lab in the summer of 2025. Her primary research focus is on liver regeneration in adult male mice. The current project she is assisting with focuses on understanding how the splicing factor, epithelial splicing regulatory protein 2 (ESRP2), affects hepatocytes behavior during liver regeneration. This work has the potential to contribute to advancements in the field. This interest stems from her interest in understanding the bodies repair mechanisms through a variety of quantitative and qualitative approaches.
Outside the lab
In Lily’s free time, she enjoys working out, running, and hanging out with friends. She is apart of the Illini Medical Screening Society where she helps provide free medical screenings to members of the Urbana-Champaign community. She is also apart of the pre-health medical fraternity Mu Epsilon Delta where she coordinates volunteer and philanthropy events to fundraise for and support local charities.
