Rolen Schlipmann

Rolen is a freshman studying biochemistry with a minor in chemistry. He currently plans to attend graduate school to study a field within biology or chemistry and hopes to pursue a career in industry as a researcher, with medical research being of particular interest. He is also a member of the American Society of Biochemists and Molecular Biologists on campus.
Current Research
Rolen joined the lab in the Spring of 2025 and has been establishing his own research interests. He currently assists his supervisor, Haneui, with genotyping mice and maintaining the mouse colonies. He is learning various techniques and gaining an understanding of the data collected, with the goal of eventually conducting his own independent research.
Outside the lab
Rolen is from Normal, Illinois, and has a dog named Louie, a poodle mix. Outside of school, he is a member of the Marching Illini and the Basketball Band, performing at football and basketball games for UIUC. He enjoys spending his free time outdoors—traveling, hiking, camping, visiting national parks, golfing, and playing tennis.
Favorite hobbies: playing golf, going on long bike rides, and walking.
